Cheap Beats By Dre Solo, Better known as Devin the Dude, Devin Copeland is a Houston-based hip hop artist. Devin was born June 4, 1970 and is best known for his unique style, his long career with Rap-A-Lot Records, and his 2002 hit \"Lacville \'79\". His friendliness with his fans has also made him an underground favorite. Although he rarely makes it to the stage on time, he always shares his swishas and cigarettes with his audience.

Devin started his hip hop career as a member of the Odd Squad, which later changed their name to the Coughee Brothaz, a group of hip hop artists signed to Rap-A-Lot Records. Rap-A-Lot is best known for being home of hip hop artists like the Geto Boys, Scarface, and Too Cheap Beats By Dre Solo Much Trouble. Devin later joined Scarface\'s Facemob, and went solo in 1998. Devin has released six solo records: The Dude in 1998, Just Tryin\' ta Live in 2002, To tha X-Treme in 2004, Waitin\' to Inhale in 2007, Landing Gear in 2008, and Suite 420 in 2010. He has also made several guest appearances, including on Dr. Dre\'s \"F*ck You\" in 1999, and De La Soul\'s \"Baby Phat\" in 2001.

Devin the Dude ended his relationship with Rap-A-Lot Records in 2008 after 15 years because the label did not renew his contract. Later in 2008, Devin signed with indie record label Razor & Tie. He is currently being distributed by E1 Entertainment. Devin the Dude mixtapes are also currently being released on independent labels.

Although he was a critical success, Devin the Dude has not achieved any success in the mainstream market but continues to be a favorite underground hip hop artist. He was called \"A brilliant oddball with a spaced-out flow\" by the New York Times. Devin has also been called \"Rap\'s best-kept secret\" and \"Your favorite rapper\'s favorite rapper.\" Devin appeared in a Cheap Beats By Dre Solo documentary called \"Screwed in Houston\" that was produced by Vice Magazine, detailing the history of the Houston rap scene, in 2007.

The Dude was released on June 16, 1998 and hit #177 on the Billboard 200. The Dude also hit #27 on the R&B/Hop Hop Billboard. Just Tryin\' ta Live was released on January 29, 2002 and hit #61 on the Billboard 200. It also reached #11 on the R&B/Hip op Billboard. To tha X-Treme was released on July 13, 2004. It reached #55 on the Billboard 200 and #6 on the R&B/Hip Hop Billboard. Waitin\' to Inhale was released on March 13, 2007 and reached #30 on the Billboard 200 and #9 on Billboard. Landing Gear, released October 7,2008 reached #47 on the Billboard 200 and #9 on Billboard.
